I was waiting in anticipation of receiving the feedback for this assignment, as I found it the most challenging, along with part two's essay on serialism due to these both being completely new concepts to me. I was pleased that my idea to note the use of the classical era Mannheim Rocket device by Prokofiev was well received, and I was given valuable advice to compare this composer's orchestration of the device to Mozart and Beethoven's. This should be an interesting comparison which I'll enjoy integrating into my revised assignment.
Stravinsky's 'signature' of course is his treatment of pulse, and although I gave a notated example of this in my assignment, my tutor advised that it would be helpful to draw conclusions on what he was trying to achieve by doing this in Pulcinella. This will probably require further general research on Stravinsky and his use of rhythm for me to be able to fulfill this requirement.
I can see from the tutor report that I have erroneously included a contradiction in my essay with regards to what is giving Pulcinella it's neoclassical sound. I'll need to reinvestigate the relevant sections and adjust this appropriately.
Finally, I was advised to note how these early neoclassical works influenced future compositions in the genre, giving relevant examples. In my original document I had focused primarily on these two works, so I will conduct new research to hopefully shed some light on neoclassicism in a more modern context.
As always, I enjoy receiving my tutor reports as it enables me to improve my work in ways I hadn't already considered, which leads me down new paths research-wise. It also inevitably leads to a new way of thinking about the topic at hand. Having taken the advice and suggestions from my tutor on board, I look forward to substantially expanding on this essay for assessment.
