I have been wanting for some time to research and write up a brief history of video game music. I like playing video games in my spare time, and they often have the most awe-inspiring scores. In recent years video games have been getting greater and greater recognition outside of their own circles for their achievements.
Concerts featuring video game music, although quite rare, consistently sell out the world over. The BAFTA's have a category for best original music in a video game, and Journey for the Sony Playstation 3 received the worlds first Grammy nomination for 'best score soundtrack for visual media'. Although it didn't win the award, it was an amazing leap forward for video game's reputation within the wider entertainment community.
In this year's Classic FM Hall of Fame, video games have two entries in the top ten - the Final Fantasy series by Nobuo Uematsu at number three, and the Elder Scrolls series by Jeremy Soule at number five.
I'm going to begin my research now, and publish here when complete.
